Sisodia arrest | Nine leaders write to PM Modi over ‘misuse of Central agencies’|
Nine leaders from eight national parties, including Chief Ministers K. Chandrasekhar Rao (Telangana), Mamata Banerjee (West Bengal), Arvind Kejriwal (Delhi), and Bhagwant Singh Mann (Punjab), have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing the government of ‘misusing of Central agencies and office of Governor to settle scores with Opposition parties outside the electoral battlefield’.
sisodiya is now in tihar jail,Sisodia is lodged in ward number 9, with mounted CCTVs of Tihar Jail number 1,” the official was quoted as saying by ANI. He added that there are some ‘dreaded criminals' who are sharing the sharing the same ward with him as neighbours.
Sisodia was arrested by CBI on February 26 in connection with the case and was produced before the Rouse Avenue court on the next day. The CBI custody was further extended for a period of 2 days on Saturday. CBI till date has had 7 days custody of Sisodia out of 15 days permitted as per law.
CBI had also stated in the court that the Aam Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is trying to give political colour to the matter by giving political statements in the media.
The court sent Sisodia to judicial custody till March 20 and allowed him to carry a copy of Srimad Bhagwadgita, a pen, diary and his spectacles along with prescribed medicines.
impact on delhi-Sisodia has been single-handedly looking after as many as 18 key departments, while the other four ministers are looking after 14 departments among them. One of the most important and immediate challenges will be to present the Budget for the coming financial year. Sisodia has tabled eight consecutive budgets of the Arvind Kejriwal government since 2015.
Since the AAP government came to power in 2015, Manish Sisodia was given the challenge of bringing out a budget that will lay the stone for Kejriwal's Delhi model.
His budget focused on education and health sectors. Apart from providing record allocations to these two departments, Sisodia managed a separate head for freebies.
Free electricity and water along with free bus rides for women became popular schemes and earned AAP the much-needed lower and lower middle class vote bank.
The budgets were not just about the subsidies, but the revenue generation also increased significantly during his regime. In 2021, Sisodia presented a green budget, while in 2022, his vision was to generate employment through various schemes.
Although he has done the meetings to prepare this year's budget as well, it will be a challenge to provide the final touches in his absence.
Delhi's Education Model and bringing quality education to Delhi's government schools
Although Manish Sisodia looked after several important departments, the education department remained his favorite.
Schemes related to the department are mainly his brainchildren that are being implemented by officers and experts under his guidance. Several new schemes, like Schools of Excellence, Parent Teacher Meetings for government schools, Buniyad scheme to strengthen the learning process of children are a few of them.
The education department will certainly feel the pinch as the minister's involvement used to play a pivotal role in grooming training sessions for teachers and even creating new infrastructure in government schools.
G-20 and several infrastructure projects under the PWD and Urban Development departments
The PWD department is responsible for overlooking approximately 1,200 kilometers of roads in the capital city. Most of the roads are of high importance as they are over 60 feet wide and connect important areas of Delhi.
At a time when Delhi is hosting the G-20 summit, the renovation and beautification works are quite important. Many of the stretches like the Ashram flyover are under construction and a delay in these projects could jeopardize the preparations for the prestigious international event.
The Urban Development department is one of the key departments of Delhi which looks after the work being done in the unauthorized colonies which are spread all over Delhi. According to an estimate, more than 60% of Delhi's population lives in these colonies.
Apart from these colonies, even slum relocation and redevelopment are being done by the department, which will be key before the G-20 meeting. Even the Yamuna cleaning projects are being taken over by the department to make it less polluted.
Manish sisodiya departments:
Key departments headed by Satyendra Jain were also looked after by Manish Sisodia
After the arrest of Satyendra Jain in May 2022, all his departments were handed over to Sisodia. Health and Home departments were important as these deal with key projects and important policy decisions.
The Mohalla Clinic project is one of the flagship schemes of Arvind Kejriwal. The project was conceived by Satyendra Jain and later handed over to Sisodia.
Many new hospital projects are also in the pipeline and are quite important for the post-Covid preparations in the capital. Many hospitals are also working to increase bed capacity to deal with inadequacies. Another department headed by Jain and now being looked after by Sisodia is the Home department, which deals with important files related to the Delhi Police, Tihar Jail, and the Delhi Fire Services.
Under these circumstances, there are a lot of gaps to be filled in the absence of Manish Sisodia.
In all likelihood, he won't be removed from his post just like Satyendra Jain wasn't. At the same time, it will be quite a challenge for Arvind Kejriwal to reallocate 18 departments among his four remaining ministers.
Conclusion:
Hence, the challenge is much bigger for Arvind Kejriwal if Manish Sisodia doesn't get relief from the court soon.
