Hardik Pandya had raised the pitch even before the first ball in the IPL 2022 campaign was bowled. Speaking in his baritone voice in a Gujarat Titans promo, he promised to take his fans towards the peak of sporting success.

Like every flight this too may have turbulence. But I have survived being in a national storm, a ban, a gruelling back injury and more, I know what it takes,” he said.

The lines were well rehearsed and to many it was plain ad-speak that might have had no link to reality, but they seemed to resonate strongly as we watched pictures of Pandya holding the IPL trophy as first-time skipper of first-time entrants Titans in arguably the toughest T20 league in the world.

In the promo, which has 3 lakh views and counting, Pandya spoke of knowing the difference between ‘a title and getting a label’. Of ‘being a trend and being trolled’.

Pandya reflected on several lows, as if to say that he acknowledged the past because it would perhaps help him shape a better future. The Hardik Pandya success story in IPL 15 was about the rediscovery of his bowling rhythm, of his unhurried batting that saw him post 487 responsible runs at No 4, and even the calm manner in which he led the team to success.

Off the field, the Brand Hardik Pandya bounce-back story has just begun.

“With his recent success and a long career ahead, we are expecting heightened interest in double digits over the next 12 months and these partnerships will continue for multiple years,” said Nikhil Bardia, Head of Sponsorship Sales & Talent at RISE Worldwide, who manage Pandya.

The newest feather in Pandya’s cap is his captaincy success. While Pandya’s reading of the game wearing the captain's armband may have been instinctive, by his own account he made a conscious effort to stay unruffled in tense match situations.Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar believes Hardik Pandya can stake claim for leadership role in one-dayers too after the World Cup this year, provided his side emerges victorious against Australia in the first ODI on Friday.

"I have been very impressed with his captaincy at the T20 level for the Gujarat Titans and for India when he is captaining the T20 side. I do believe that if he wins the first game in Mumbai, then you can almost stamp him as the India captain once the World Cup is over in 2023." Gavaskar said Pandya's presence in the middle-order is essential for India.

With regular skipper Rohit Sharma set to miss the first ODI at the Wankhede Stadium due to family commitments, Pandya has been named the stand-in captain for the contest.

Hardik Pandya has had a dream run in 2022. The 29-year-old has thrived in international cricket and emerged as a genuine all-rounder for Team India. Moreover, he burnished his leadership credentials when he guided Gujarat Titans to their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title in May. Gujarat Titans coach Ashish Nehra has now praised Pandya’s leadership skills. While speaking on JioCinema on the eve of the IPL 2023 auction in Kochi, Nehra expressed his admiration for Hardik’s leadership style. “Hardik Pandya, at times, people see him as a new captain, struggling from injuries. But when it comes to his captaincy, the kind of ability he has with the bat, and the ball, and the kind of persona he has, he is a very positive person. The kind of aura he has shown, if you ask me as a coach, you can look at a player and tell what he is thinking, Hardik Pandya is a very positive guy. I never felt he is a new captain and he doesn’t know what to do. He was a very important part of Mumbai Indians, who have won many titles. He was there. There was no shortage of IPL experience," Nehra was quoted as saying on JioCinema.

Hardik Pandya says Indian players comfortable with workload management calls

Hardik Pandya says Indian players comfortable with workload management calls

India all-rounder and stand-in captain for the first ODI here against Australia, Hardik Pandya said on Thursday that bilateral series are as competitive as ICC tournaments and brooding over failures in past global competitions is an exercise in futility.

India have usually done well in bilateral series -- both home and away -- but have been failing regularly in ICC tournaments for close to a decade now, with the most recent disappointment being the semi-final defeat to England in the T20 World Cup in Australia last year.

Pandya said the team had not tried anything new to change the trend and the focus has been on learning from bilateral fixtures.

''I don't think we have tried anything new. We will be trying to be a little brave which I think in the last couple of series we have done quite well,'' the all-rounder told the media here at the Wankhede Stadium.

''All these bilaterals are as challenging, they can get as close to the wire as they can. That is the only way we are going to learn and start playing under pressure of knockouts (in ICC tournaments). (But) we don't need to look at that right now, the past is past and we are hoping for the best things to come,'' Pandya added.

Pandya, who is also the vice-captain of the Indian side for the three-match series against Australia, said the players are comfortable with workload-related calls made by the management.

''We have to have faith in our strength and conditioning coaches. I am a guy who trusts his team. These calls of workload, who should play when, who should not play, that is completely on the guys who are professionals and it is their call,'' Pandya said. ''All these guys are confident that if they miss out on some matches, then they miss out. It's okay. That's the confidence we have. If someone misses out because of workload management, this management has shown confidence and trust in the players. I think that's the reason players who have gone out have come back with a lot of security,'' he added.

The 29-year-old all-rounder said he is ready to share whatever workload comes along with the other bowlers. “Whatever the situation requires, I will do it,” he said when asked if he was ready to bowl a full quota of 10 overs.

Pandya opined that ODI matches are more settled and give teams a longer duration to execute their plans. ''ODIs are just an extension of the T20 game in which you have to make a lot of changes. You have to be at it because every over, every ball changes the game. In ODIs you have more set plans, once you start something, the same plan could be going on for six overs. It is just (about) how we can control that period,'' he said.

Pandya also said the Indian players are used to competing in the Indian Premier League, especially when the tournament is around a major bilateral series. The third ODI against Australia will be played on March 22 in Chennai, while the IPL 2023 begins on March 31.

''We all are professionals and this is not the first time we are playing the IPL. This is going to be my ninth or 10th and almost everyone has been around for far too long. Playing for the country is a different honour and pride so that does not even come into question,'' he said.

''To be very honest, I had to think about this question for the first time because I don't think any individual has got this thought of motivating more because the IPL is around. IPL is IPL, how we take it series by series, even the IPL will be the same,'' the all-rounder explained.

Pandya added that he has no ambitions of representing India in the final of the ICC World Test Championship to be played against Australia at The Oval in June this year.

''No. I am ethically very strong person. I haven't done 10 per cent to reach there. I am not even a part of one per cent. So, me coming there and taking someone's place will ethically not go well. If I want to play Test cricket, I'll go through the grind and earn my spot. Hence, for that reason I will not be available for the WTC final or future Test series until I don't feel that I have earned my spot,'' he said.

(This story has not been edited by Devdiscourse staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.)Hardik Pandya the stand-in captain in India's ODI series against Australia has revealed that he won't be taking part in the World Test Championship final,

Hardik Pandya has not played Test cricket for India since September 2018 and has been limited to only playing white-ball cricket due to constant injuries especially back injuries.

However, with India qualifying for the World Test Championship, he was asked ahead of the first ODI against Australia if he would be ready to don the whites again for the one-off game at The Oval.

While Pandya's presence does give India an edge with the bat, especially in the absence of Rishabh Pant, as well as the ball in swing-friendly English conditions, the all-rounder was quick to rule himself out for the Ultimate Test.

On being quizzed if he would be tempted to return, Pandya said as quoted by ICC: "To be honest, no. I am ethically very strong in my life. I haven't done 10% to reach there. I am not even a part of the 1%. So me coming there and taking someone's place will ethically not go well with me."

"If I want to play Test cricket, I will go through the grind, I will earn my position and then come back. For that reason, to be very honest, I will not be available or play the World Test Championship Final, or any future test matches until I feel that I have earned my spot," Pandya said quoted by ICC.

The opening game of the ODI series against Australia will be the first time Hardik will captain India in the 50-over format, though he has already led the side in T20Is on numerous occasions. India will be without Rohit Sharma for the first game of the series but the regular skipper is set to return for the remaining two games.

Sharma's absence in the first ODI also leaves a gap at the top of the order. Shubman Gill's dream run in the 50-over format in 2023 has made him one of the first names on the teamsheet and he will be partnered by Ishan Kishan at the Wankhede tomorrow, as confirmed by skipper Hardik.

The last time Kishan opened in the 50-over format, he smashed a double ton (210 off 131 balls) against Bangladesh.

The series also provides both teams with the opportunity to test themselves against each other keeping the Cricket World Cup in mind. Hardik, when asked about World Cup preparation and India's dismal knockout record of late in Men's ICC events, spoke about the importance of bilateral series for preparation.

"We are not trying anything new," Hardik said. "We will play according to the situation but we will try to be brave which I think in the last couple of series we have done well," quoted ICC.

"The more challenging and closer the bilateral games get, the more we can learn and start playing under pressure as well as the knockouts.

"I don't think we need to look at it [previous ICC events] right now - past is past. We are looking forward to the future and hoping for the best," quoted by ICC. (ANI)Ashish Nehra will play a huge role at the upcoming IPL mini-auction. The highly-anticipated event will be held on December 23 in Kochi. Gujarat Titans has retained the core of their title-winning team. Skipper Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, David Miller, Matthew Wade, Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan will form the cornerstone of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2023. The franchise has a decent purse of Rs 19.25 crore for the auction. It remains to be seen how they will use their considerable purse at the
